Trouble brewing at Hartford Fire Department

HARTFORD — The Hartford Fire Department seems to be putting out its own fires lately.
In the weeks following Kevin Bell’s death–which occurred when he was on duty fighting a fire on Oct. 7–several other firefighters have found themselves in trouble, both on and off the job.
The latest black eye came over the weekend when Hartford Police responded to a fight between two fire lieutenants at a scene.
No charges were filed, but that was not the case on Nov. 13 when Farmington Police arrested firefighter Jeffrey Vendetta and charged him with drunk driving and taking off after hitting another car. Police said his blood-alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit.
Hartford police also arrested firefighter Justin Wood after his gun went off and he shot his friend in the jaw Nov. 2. According to the arrest warrant, Wood admitted to drinking as well that night.
